Is Your Online Ad CTR Suffering? Try These Tips

It’s one thing to run online ads, but another thing entirely to generate an average or above average click through rate (CTR). Without this, your ads aren’t doing you much good.

If you’re unhappy with your click through rate, it’s time to find out what’s going on. Sometimes, all it takes is a single tweak in order to boost your CTR and generate the traffic you’ve been dreaming of.

This leads us to an important question: what types of changes make the most sense?

While there is no simple answer to this question, there are a few tips you should experiment with:

1. Add a Special Offer

This is all about getting people excited about your ad. Rather than insert the offer into the descriptive text, head straight for the headline.

When you add the special offer here, there’s a much greater chance that people will see it. Subsequently, they’re more inclined to click through to learn more.

Every part of your ad is critical to its success, but it all starts with the headline.

2. Don’t Beat Around the Bush

You only have so much space to get your point across. You can’t afford to use up valuable characters on words that don’t contribute anything to your ad.

As noted above, it all starts with your headline. This should be as strong as possible. From there, know how many characters you have for your descriptive text, and then experiment with a handful of variations.

As a general rule of thumb, if you can get your point across with fewer words it’s always a good idea to do so.

3. Use Symbols

It’s crazy how many people never implement this strategy. It’s not a surefire way to boost your click through rate, but it’s one of those little things that can have a big impact.

When your ad is surrounded by others, a symbol can be the differentiating factor. Experiment with an exclamation point, percentage sign, or trademark symbol.

Final Thoughts

If your online ad click through rate begins to slip, don’t waste any time finding out why. One or more of the tips above may be all you need to turn things in your favor.
